5th February 2014 Bad weather prompts fun and critiques.

With our speaker for this evening forced to cancel due to terrible driving conditions, what to do with the time? Our projection supremo Ron Burnell stepped into the breach with a short but hilarious video clip featuring wild life with human voice overs. Best ‘actor’, a gorilla bemoaning his lack of success with the ladies, while absent-mindedly breaking wind, cackling storks looking on.

Serious stuff followed, with a review of the best camera clubs in the West, based on their performance in the 2013 Inter-club digital projection competition. Open to over 100 clubs, Bristol took top slot with great wildlife shots and creative ‘arty’ compilations. Runners-up included Dorchester and Plymouth, whose entries were of a very high quality, arguably worthy of higher placings. Wellington entered for the first time and was placed midway, a creditable performance amongst the many larger towns.

We then critiqued some of the images, two groups alternately offering ‘what works well’ and ‘what could be improved’. These sessions are valuable practice for learning to assess and improve one’s own images, and for offering constructive feedback to fellow members. An enjoyable evening, despite the travails of shocking weather.
